Minutes of the October 23, 2005 Meeting of the Indoor Gardening Association of Portland:
Oh, my goodness. Wasn’t all that Hawaiian theme food scrumptious?! There was so much I didn’t have room for even ONE of everything. How depressing! I’m certainly glad that my diet doesn’t start until Monday. Bill Walsh (our president in charge of vice) told me that next month’s theme is going to be MEXICAN. I’m already fantasizing about enchiladas, tamales, chili, guacamole, tacos, fajitas, chipotle sauce, etc., etc. I wonder if those cute little umbrella thingies will fit in a can of Pepsi.
Lori Orth brought a most interesting program on homemade balms and lotions incorporating some really fragrant oils and other goodies. I think we all went home smelling better than usual. Lori has expressed an interest in joining our august assemblage. Sounds good to me!
Our raffle was outstanding. It seemed as if most of us brought something and nearly everyone went home happy (except for Ruth, who was already home anyway, and wanted the miniature Cattleya I won). How about Tim Berg ending up with nearly all the epiphyllums? He wants to join us. Perry Garrett made quite a haul, too. What a day!
Our treasurer reported a beginning balance of 892.16, income of 44.00 (30.00 from the raffle and 14.00 from dues), and expenditures of 8.00 for the newsletter, leaving a balance of 928.16.
Jane Henry made a motion to take some plants to a local nursing home to cheer up the residents. Betty Walklate (at least I think it was Betty) seconded the motion, which passed by acclamation. We will ALL bring some of our extra African violets, mums, gerberas, begonias, etc. in 4” pots. I’m sure anything with some color will be much appreciated. We’ll do whatever we need to do with them during the meeting so they’ll be ready to deliver to the nursing homes. The residents and staff were SO appreciative the last time we did this.
There being no further business, Madame President adjourned the business portion of the meeting.
The rest of the afternoon was spent talking about plants (what a novel idea), munching, and visiting.
Respectfully submitted, Sheldon Hatheway, Recording Secretary, etc., etc.
